Emergency Assistance Program

Macon County Department of Social Services will begin taking Emergency Assistance Applications on December 6, 2010 for mortgage or rent assistance.  Emergency cash assistance will be provided to families who meet the eligibility requirements as stated in the basic requirements of the Work First Family Assistance Program.  The eligibility for this program will be based on the careful judgment of the Intake-Human Resource Placement Specialist when determining the emergency situation.  This program is income based as well as requiring at least one (1) child in the home under eighteen (18) years of age. The maximum payment level for Macon County is $200.00 per year.

Emergency Assistance is designed to assist families with sporadic emergency needs and is not intended to meet recurring or ongoing needs.  No Emergency Assistance will be provided to applicants if the emergency cannot be alleviated, as EA is expected to alleviate the emergency.

An appointment will be needed to interview with the Intake-Human Resource Placement Specialist for EA funding.   You will need to contact the Specialist between the hours of and to make your appointment.  Please call Macon County Department of Social Services at (828)-349-2124.  GT
